FIRELINE-

Corey!! Congrats on winning athlete of the Month! We have enjoyed your posts and your love for chasing these GAINS!! You have been repping non-stop since the day you joined our SQUAD and we love it! Plus your physique is on point!! Seeing your posts when I’m cruising through the IG’s tagged photos makes me want to get in the gym and hit some two a days, every day until my GAINS are on your LEVEL! So, enough said, let’s jump into this interview and introduce you to the FIRELINE STRONG WORLD!

FIRELINE-

So, How did you get into competitive bodybuilding? What brought out the BEAST in you?

Corey

– I started in high school with football training and basically never stopped. Got a chance while I worked in Halifax to train with Santana Anderson Mr. Canada for a few months and been going at it hard ever since. I have had a few injuries slowing me down. I blew out my ACL 8 years ago, and again in December so another big surgery coming, but I don’t let it stop me. I embrace it and I squat hard.

FIRELINE-

WOW, two ACL blowouts and you are still killin Legs.. I don’t know If that’s necessarily a good thing or a bad thing, but I like the tenacity! So, What advice would you give our readers who are just starting out and really want to hit the ground running!? What is the best advice you can give on Diet/training/supplementation that some one told you or that you learned for yourself throughout your journey to become the bodybuilder you are today?

Corey

– Best advice is HARD WORK, FOCUS, and pure DEDICATION. When Friday comes around and you hit the gym and not the bar, you know you mean business and you won’t ruin all of the hard work you put in all week. No need to be worried about meeting a girl, trust me they will come to you if you’re working your ass off in the gym and in life.

FIRELINE-

Ha! I love it! GAINS First, dating second. So, what do you do for fun outside of the GYM Walls.. What else is there to life besides GAINS!?

Corey

– Other than the gym, I live less than an hour away from the Canadian Rockies. So, I always am in the mountains biking, hiking, snowboarding and camping.

FIRELINE-

Dope! GAINS and Camp Vibes. I’m feeling you. Well, time for some fun, what are your 3 favorite cheat meal Items/meals?

Corey

– My 3 favorite cheat meals would be PIZZA, cheeseburgers, and cookies!

FIRELINE-

Mmmmmm, mine too bruh, mine too.. Though when I say cookies, I mean Oreo’s (* Double Stuf, dipped two at a time in milk )… So, how many donuts are you capable of eating in one sitting? If donuts aren’t your thing, can you put down a whole XL pizza in one sitting?! Do tell.

Corey

– Nope, doughnuts aren’t my thing! But, pizza I’ll crush a whole XL, a double cheese, double pepperoni with a added side of cheese bread! Not to mention the 2 liter of root beer with no F*%^&ing problem.

FIRELINE-

Lol. we had to edit that “bad word” out for the kids. No effin Problem tho, I see you big boy! So, Dream day? From start to finish!? How would it look?

Corey

– Dream day, Hmm.. when I’m not out on the rig drilling all day…. lol and I can eat clean, train as per schedule, then I’m happy. That is my Dream day. This summer I’ll be buying a bike again. Nothing like a Harley and nice weather.

FIRELINE-

HARLEY guy! Sick! I was on two wheels for 5 years straight back in my College days! Wife won’t let me get back to those Glory days. I have children to provide for now, so I can’t blame her. If I looked into your fridge right now, what would I find? Give us the TRUTH! haha!

Corey

– Nothing but fresh fruit and veggies and meat and meal prep! I attached a picture for proof!

FIRELINE-

(*He really did attach a picture )LOL, I wouldn’t have believed you! Next question, who do you look up to most in the bodybuilding world?

Corey

– The Rock. He proved that hard work, dedication and focus on your goals pays off. Aside from his hard work and lifting, he is a very positive dude, he helps kids families and he loves tequila! Tequila, that’s my favorite!
As for a favorite Body builder, I’d stick with Arnold.

FIRELINE-

Arnold is Numero Uno ;)….I love the ROCK too. Who doesn’t appreciate a hilarious, shredded bald guy who loves Tequila and GAINS. Last question, what is your Number One Fitness Goal for you to achieve in your Fitness Career Now that you have FIRELINE Nutrition in your corner?

Corey

– As for fitness goals I’d like to start competing once I have time off the rig. I would love to open my own gym in the future and help and train kids/adults in whatever they need to be able to go after all of their hopes and dreams!

Im sure our followers can learn a lot from a true GAINS Professional like you! I personally can’t wait to hear your answers! Thanks again Dave! Lets jump right into this interview!

FIRELINE-

How did you get into competitive bodybuilding? What brought out the BEAST in you?

David Bowie-

I started lifting just to get into shape. I am a SWAT team member and Tactical Firearms instructor who was not in good shape and not setting a good example, Nor was I doing either job up the level I should have been. So I started lifting to get stronger and in better condition. As time went on, a long time dream of being a bodybuilder was going from being a dream only, at 45 years old, to being a reality if I was willing to work harder and take care of my nutrition. Once I made that commitment it was full speed ahead. My body changed faster and grew better. At 48 I took home 3 second place awards and 2 third place awards In NPC physique class. But now I am taking that drive and motivation into two bodybuilding class competitions in October and November ! Getting bigger and more conditioned at now 50 years old.

FIRELINE-

Man Dave, that is motivation! Killinnnn at 50 and starting at 48! I love it! Your conditioning is insane! What advice would you give our readers who are just starting out and really want to hit the ground running!? What is the best advice you can give on Diet/training/supplementing that some one told you or that you learned for yourself throughout your journey to become the bodybuilder you are today?

David Bowie- Advice: Never let your mind limit you!! If you want it, go for it. Set a plan for your workouts and your nutrition like they are the most important meetings you have. It’s your body and your health. It is the most important meeting you’ll ever have!! Don’t get overwhelmed with all the variations in workouts, food and supplements!! Stick to the foundation basics to start and learn as you go and give your body what your body needs. Eat good whole food and take supplements that help you reach you nutrition and energy goals Like TRUWHEY to get all the needed protein to supplement food. BCAA’s are also great to keep that protein synthesis revved up during and after workouts. I learned early on that Fish oils are a great need for general health let alone when you start pushing your body hard so I take those daily. I also do like a pre-workout and the VIGOR fits the bill great by giving me a boost in energy without tearing up my stomach!! Mostly just hit it hard, be smart and enjoy the process!! Don’t get so focused on where you want to be that you don’t enjoy the gains you’re building at the time!! This should be a lifelong lifestyle so keep it fun, and interesting. Study the subject and your body and learn how to make it function at it’s highest level!!

img_3837

FIRELINE-

Great advice, I think lots of people do not enjoy the process, they get so amped up on what they want the end product to look like that they give up before the even start to make grains. So, what do you do for fun outside of the GYM Walls.. What else is there to life besides GAINS!?

David Bowie-

Outside the gym I still live for fitness. I am a certified personal trainer who has online clients to handle, so building meal plans, workout plans and consulting with clients on health issues is something I really, really do enjoy. When you can pass on what you’ve learned and truly change someone’s life and future the feeling is pretty hard to beat. Outside of that I build Custom defensive pistols and have taught tactical firearms and tactics for going on 25 years. I recently trained my wonder wife into her first ever NPC figure competition which she placed second in so that was a big highlight when I was able to do that with her!!

FIRELINE-

Sounds like you stay SUPER busy, That’s awesome you got to Coach your very own wife into some GAINS! So, time for some Fun, what is your go to Favorite cheat meal?

David Bowie-

Cheat Meal: At the risk of sounding cliche PIZZA !!!!! LOL and a reeses peanut butter cup blizzard. That happens after every competition in huge form!!!! Miserable later but very happy while it’s going down!!! LMAO

FIRELINE-

I love it, I’m the same way, I go hard with Pizza and Ice Cream but I am always regretting it after! So, what is your favorite color combo to REP at the gym besides Black and Red? If Fireline were to make a second color combo what would you want it to be??

David Bowie-

Colors: I really like Blue!! Whether it be blue and black, or Blue and yellow!!! Love bright get your attention colors !!

FIRELINE-

Got it! Blue and Black would be a nice little change up! So, Dream car? If you could own one Dream Ride, what would it be? Give us a color too!? If you aren’t too into cars, what’s your dream vacation!?

David Bowie-

Dream car: It would be to get another of my first car. A 1967 Maroon GTO !!! Give that tri-power tire smokin’ classic !!

FIRELINE-

A GTO! Niceeeee…So, If I was to look inside your fridge right now, what would I find? What do you do to keep that LEANNNN Physique?

David Bowie-

My fridge is scary organized with prepped food. everything cooked in bulk and in individual containers ready to be weighed out and eating or packed to go. Chicken breast, Swai, Salmon, Flank steak, white rice, potatoes, Eggs and egg whites. Then I have some condiments like low sugar ketchup, spicy mustard, etc. Green tea and water, blue berries, strawberries.

FIRELINE-

White Rice! I am right there with you! Can’t stand brown rice! Who do you look up to most in the bodybuilding world?

David Bowie-

Dusty Hanshaw IFBB pro, is my go to guy in Bodybuilding!! Hard hard working dedicated bodybuilder who lives the life and never lets anything stop him from reaching his goals. AT the same time has fun with the grind !!

FIRELINE-

Thats awesome! LAST Question!!

What is your Number One Fitness Goal for you to achieve in your Fitness Career Now that you have FIRELINE Nutrition in your corner?

David Bowie-

There is no doubt with FIRELINE nutrition backing me that it will happen just as it did this past year !! FIRELINE and I are going to bring home more and more awards to adorn my gym walls !!

FIRELINE- How did you get into competitive bodybuilding? What brought out the BEAST in you?

My friend that I played softball with at NDSU decided to do a show and I always loved lifting. I missed being competitive in a sport and figured it would fit perfectly! Now I have fallen in love with the sport and couldn’t imagine not doing it!

FIRELINE-  I feel you! A lot of people mock us when we call it a sport, but it truly is. I played D1 Basketball and after my college career ended I was lost. Then I hit the GYM world and was fitness modling by 22 years old! I haven’t looked back! I LOVE this sport. So, What advice would you give our readers who are just starting out and really want to hit the ground running!? I follow all of your posts and love seeing you recipes and macro friendly cheesecakes! What is the best advice you can give on Diet/training/supplementing that some one told you or that you learned for yourself throughout your journey to become the bodybuilder you are today?

I have gone through the miserable preps you hear about: 2 hours of cardio daily, eating only fish, veggies and chicken, blah, blah, blah. That’s what it was, HELL!!! I didn’t even know I would compete after my first show. That type of training is not sustainable. I’ve found my new coach, Adam Atkinson(@seeyoulaterleaner) who has opened my eyes to a new style of training and I could not be more thankful. We follow a flexible dieting approach and a HIIT cardio regiment. I can eat what I want and when I want as long as it fits my numbers. My advice would be to do your research people! Do not use the first coach that you hear of. Look at their track record. Get to know them. Do they have your best interest in mind? If you do not, you may be putting your health and sanity in serious danger!
FIRELINE- Amazing advice! I started to follow him once you joined the squad, his posts and comparisons on different foods is pretty awesome! I would love to see what he could do with my diet, I follow a IIFYM/strict clean eating combo type plan. LOL..that sounds crazy but Its what I can stick to and keep my GAINS and my sanity. HIIT is awesome too, those long hours on the treadmill are the worst. So, What do you do for fun outside of the GYM Walls.. What else is there to life besides GAINS!?
I have my husband, Tyler Steen, and my dog, Yadi. They are everything. We like to go on bike rides and ride 4 wheelers at the farm. I also coach softball. I grew up playing and went to NDSU for 4 years playing there as well.

FIRELINE- Awesome, coaching, hubbby and a pup, sounds like life is good! Alright, time for some Fun, what is your go to Favorite cheat meal?
I don’t like the word “cheat meal.” It associates a negativity towards food. Food is fuel. There is no such thing as good or bad food. Your body only knows micro and macro nutrients. If I had to pick a tasty meal I would say peanut butter bacon burger with sweet potato fries, pizza, and DONUTS! Heck, donuts is what we had for dessert at our wedding!

FIRELINE- Interesting, I got you though. Food is fuel, macros and micros all break down into nutrients..depending on your number and daily goals there is no such thing as a cheat meal. I see what your saying, and your new physique proves it. So, what is your favorite color combo to REP at the gym besides Black and Red? If Fireline were to make a second color combo what would you want it to be??

Black, white, and orange. I live in black, white, and orange!
FIRELINE- Orange! We have never received that as an answer! Pretty cool. I would of guessed you were a SF giants fan.. but I Like it. So, Dream car? If you could own one Dream Ride, what would it be? Give us a color too!? If you arent too into cars, whats your dream vacation!?

I have a Subaru! I love it, but if I could choose, I would probably say decked out Dodge Durango. Keep it simple.
FIRELINE- Awesome, those new Durangos are clean! If I was to look inside your fridge right now, what would I find? What do you do to keep that LEANNNN Physique?

Egg beaters, turkey bacon, chicken, protein cheesecake, simply potatoes hashbrowns, and whip cream are ALWAYS in the fridge! Of course the meat as well, but that’s a given!

FIRELINE- I love those pics of those cheesecakes!! Especially the Fruity Pebbles one! I literally screen shot those ingredients and am going to make that soon! Who do you look up to most in the bodybuilding world?

I have always admired Justine Munro and Narmin Assria.

FIRELINE- Ballers! We havent had those two chosen yet..so this is a first..MUCH RESPECT!

LAST Question!!

What is your Number One Fitness Goal for you to achieve in your Fitness Career Now that you have FIRELINE Nutrition in your corner?

I am going for my pro card this year at Team U nationals. Making it to Olympia is a dream I want to pursue, but I want to be an all around athlete. I want to be lean like a body builder, strong as a power lifter, and as athletic as a crossfitter.

FIRELINE- We love it! We know you will!! I think you actually already have become that all around athlete! Your transformation has been unbelievable! Keep making those GAINS and we cannot wait to see what your future holds!!
